George Vulkan
George was born in Vienna in 1929. George had a happy childhood until the Anschluss when he was made to sit at the back of the class and deal with the Hitler Youth who would wait for him after school. George and his parents left Vienna in 1938, eventually moving on to England in 1939. Many other members of the family were not so fortunate. As a child George eventually settled well in England but his father found it more difficult. George would have a successful career in science and a happy family life with Mary and their sons. (Unaided Emigration)
On the whole I feel that I have been very lucky and have had a good and rewarding life in spite of having been a refugee.
